Opposition lacks political strategy

We do not have a strong political opposition in South Africa, mainly because opposition parties do not know how to play the political game.

We do not have a strong political opposition in South Africa, mainly because opposition parties do not know how to play the political game.

Opposition parties keep a check and exert pressure on a ruling party to capitalise on its weaknesses in an attempt to take power. But it is not like that in our country.

The DA is too involved in ANC politics, instead of strengthening and increasing its own constituency. Helen Zille, for example, constantly talks about the ANC. That gives the impression that the ANC is the only party.

With the ANC struggling at the moment, opposition parties should be convincing voters to vote for them in 2009. But instead of wooing voters, they are delving in ANC politics. Why does it bother Bantu Holomisa if Thabo Mbeki did not attend the ANC's birthday celebration?

Opposition leaders do not have what it takes to be in opposition politics. The ANC will start campaigning in a few months' time and they will follow the ANC around, repeating or questioning what Jacob Zuma will say, instead of telling people what they are going to do better than the ANC.

Zille and Holomisa are out of tune with the strategic and operational approach of opposition politics.
