Lionel George, the man who allegedly held staff hostage at the Pretoria News newspaper last year, is to go on trial in April.
George, who wore navy trousers and a white shirt, appeared briefly in the Pretoria regional court yesterday where he faced charges of kidnapping, attempted murder, illegal possession of a firearm and the "pointing of anything that is likely to lead a person to believe it is a firearm".
This relates to last year's incident in which he held eight staff members of the newspaper hostage.
He later handed himself over to hostage negotiators.
George will remain in custody and will appear in court again on April 22 and 25 for trial. - Sapa
