Deputy Chief Justice Dikgang Moseneke has clarified his "ANC-bashing" statement to the party.
The party said it was satisfied with his explanation and had forgiven him.
After a meeting between Chief Justice Pius Langa, Moseneke and ANC deputy president Kgalema Motlanthe in Johannesburg yesterday, the two parties agreed that Moseneke's statement had no ill intent.
Moseneke was quoted in the Sunday Times as saying: "I chose this job very carefully. I have another 10 to 12 years on the bench and I want to use my energy to help create an equal society. It's not what the ANC wants or what the delegates want, it is about what is good for our people."
Yesterday's meeting followed a letter the ANC wrote to Langa complaining about Moseneke's remarks, which he reportedly made at his 60th birthday party in Durban at the weekend. ANC spokesman Tiyani Rikhotso said yesterday's meeting had provided an opportunity for the party to raise the concerns expressed at the national working committee meeting about the speech.
