A five-year-old Mpumalanga girl has not enjoyed childhood like other children her age.
Paulina, not her real name, from Hendrina in Mpumalanga has been a victim of rape for some time but remained silent.
Until Sunday afternoon after the assailant, a 40-year old neighbor, allegedly raped her again.
Superintendent Abie Khoabane of Mpumalanga provincial police said: "The man had pounced on her, dragged her to a nearby bush and raped her at about 4pm."
On her arrival home the little girl broke her silence and told her mother about her ordeal.
She identified her alleged attacker, who stays in the same street as the child's family.
She also told her mother that the ordeal has been going on for some time and that it usually occurred when she returned home from pre-school.
The mother reported the matter to the police and the suspect was arrested.
Khoabane said that though the alleged rape had been going on over a period of time, the girl had been too afraid to tell anyone about it.
The suspect appeared in court yesterday and his case was postponed to tomorrow.
