For billions across the world, the game of football is both a unifying force and a way of life arguably second in mass appeal only to religion.
Football is the glue that binds street neighbours, communities and nations - creating a huge global network described by Fifa president Sepp Blatter as "the family of football".
So no words can even fully describe the sense of grief and loss deeply felt by the family of football following the road deaths of 11 players and fifteen supporters of Highlands Robbers in Lesotho on December 26.
In the words of Blatter, today the worldwide football community is in mourning and stands by the side of the Lesotho nation in solidarity.
