More than 6 300 people throughout the country are expected to take part in the Dischem Half-Marathon in Bedfortview on Sunday morning.

Trevor Hosking, deputy chairman of Bedfordview Athletics Club, said they were impressed with their growth of the yearly event.

"It has been growing in leaps and bounds, even some of the beginners use it when they start running."

The majority of runners will use it to sharpen themselves up for the Nedbank Half-Marathon in Pretoria on January 19. Leonard Chuene, ASA president, said: "We are quite happy with the response." - Sowetan
