Unidentified body still in mortuary

Riot Hlatshwayo

Riot Hlatshwayo

Mpumalanga police have called on members of the community to help identify a man whose body was found in a plantation in Belfast in October last year.

Police say the man was found by passers-by. His body did not have any visible injuries though police suspect he had been murdered.

Police told Sowetan that the man was dressed in a way that made them believe he was a truck driver.

"The inside of his pockets were out, suggesting that he might have been searched in a possible robbery before being murdered," said Mpumalanga police spokesman Superintendent Abie Khoabane yesterday.

Khoabane said the man's body has been lying at a mortuary in Belfast since then.

Police suspect the victim might have been hijacked while driving a truck, but said investigations were continuing.
