Correctional Services said that “matters are under control” at Johannesburg’s Sun City Prison on Wed.
It was like a scene from a movie when a 50-year-old Limpopo businessman and two armed robbers shot at one another on Sunday night.
Police said they could not disclose the businessman's name for security reasons.
The robbers allegedly tried to ambush the prominent businessman between Tzaneen and Mankweng.
The Lebowakgomo businessman was driving along Veekraal, a few kilometres from Boyne, to his home in Tzaneen, when the robbers tried to ambush him.
They allegedly fired a hail of bullets at his vehicle and passing motorists had to duck and dive to escape.
Mankweng police spokesman, Inspector Malan Nchabeleng, said the robbers tried to stop the businessman's vehicle by shooting at it, but he shot back.
He said that the businessman made a U-turn and decided to drive to a nearby police station, but the robbers fired a bullet at the right, rear tyre of his vehicle.
The man continued driving, but the robbers managed to catch up with him and pulled him out of his car. They demanded cash while ransacking the businessman's vehicle.
The men escaped in a white Nissan Sentra, whose registration numbers had been removed, with an undisclosed amount of money.
According to Nchabeleng, no injuries were reported, though the police found a number of empty cartridges on the crime scene.
"The name of the businessman has been withheld for security reasons," Nchabeleng said.
He appealed to anyone who had any information that might lead to the arrest and conviction of the two suspects to contact the Limpopo police or call the police crime-stop number at 086-010-111.
