Platinum Stars midfielder Steve Lekoelea has denied knowing the girl who accused him of assault.
Luyanda Motloung, 18, from Zone 11 in Sebokeng, laid an assault charge against Lekoelea, claiming that on Friday he had abused her verbally and then slapped her.
She said Lekoelea was upset because she had refused his advances.
On Saturday Motloung dropped the charges for "personal reasons".
Yesterday Lekoelea said Motloung had fabricated the story and denied calling her "names".
Lekoelea, who was making arrangements for his father's funeral, said he had no reason to swear at her and never wanted to sleep with her.
"I don't know that girl personally and for her to say I wanted to sleep with her is absurd. I think she just wants to be famous," he said.
Lekoelea admitted she hit him with a brick in the face but declined to divulge details of the incident.
Vaal police spokesman Captain Veli Mcera said charges could not be dropped at the weekend.
He said Motloung may have made a statement to drop the charges.
"We still have to decide whether to drop the charges, because if her statements are contradictory she might be charged with perjury."
