A fight over maintenance money and an extra-marital affair led to a horror incident in which a father shot dead his two children before attempting to end his life as well.
This was after the husband, who is fighting for his life, was asked by his employers to bring his wife to work where she would sign the maintenance documents.
He was apparently no longer taking care of his family.
Instead, George Molete, 31, shot and killed his two daughters, aged six years and seven weeks, at about 11.30am yesterday morning.
The distraught mother of the two children, Portia Msimanga, 31, told Sowetan that an argument had ensued after Molete began sleeping out.
Msimanga said that she had then asked her man about his apparent cheating and that was when he allegedly snapped. They then started wrestling over a cellphone that allegedly belonged to her husband's lover and had her picture on the screen.
Molete went to his girlfriend again, and when he came back home he demanded that his wife disclose the identity of the children's father. He said he could not be the father as he was barren.
"He beat me up, punched and stomped all over me before throwing me out of the house. While leaving, I heard two gun shots coming from my house. Luckily, there was a police vehicle passing by which I stopped. I told the police what was happening.
"Police accompanied me back to the house. Sadly, we found my daughters already dead," said the grieving mother
Vaal Rand police spokesman Veli Mcera confirmed the incident. The suspect was rushed to Sebokeng Hospital where he is in the Intensive Care Unit, Mcera said.
