More than 60 matric pupils in Khutsong, near Carletonville, North West, will receive their matric results today. Their results were not released on December 28 because they had outstanding assessment-year marks.

Charles Raseala, the province's education spokesman, said 62 students from Badirile, Relebogile and Tswasongu secondary schools had not received their results because of incomplete projects in oral and creative writing.

Last August, the provincial department bused more than 450 students from Khutsong and 40 of their best teachers to a college in Taung to prepare for their final examinations.

Raseala said: "Because there was no normal schooling and the pupils did not attend the Taung camp, it became difficult to collect the marks."

Education was halted in April after continued protests against the area's incorporation into North West from Gauteng.

Raseala said that the three schools submitted the outstanding marks on Monday. The marks then had to be approved.

"The pupils will be able to collect their statements from the schools today," said Raseala.

A student from Mabeskraal, who did not receive his marks because of an incomplete portfolio, had been assisted.

Raseala said a school cleaning campaign called Letsema was under way.

On whether schooling will continue as normal, Raseala said: "We are not sure if parents will wait for the Constitutional Court ruling, but we hope that they allow their children to go to school. We hope that they realise that last year's situation will not help the pupils."
