It has been interesting to observe the ANC leadership succession and the third-term issue. It is now very clear that the organisation's vibrant youth wing can decide the future of the country - and no one can stop it.

Alliance leader Moses Kotane once said: "At this hour of destiny, the future of South Africa is in your hands, and it will be what you make of it."

The young lions heeded this call at the 52nd ANC conference in Limpopo and emerged as relevant as always. Their stand at the conference was not against any ANC cadre, but to demonstrate that it is not a rubber-stamping body of any intellectual.

By standing firm on its position, the young lions have assisted the ANC to emerge united and to be more conscious of the interests of the poor and working class of South Africa.
