A man believed to be a Mozambican was stabbed to death during an argument at a Mpumalanga shebeen on Saturday.

The 29-year-old man allegedly had a heated argument with two fellow patrons of the shebeen in Mhluzi township near Middelburg at about 6.30pm.

Superintendent Malcolm Mokomeni, of the Mpuma- langa police, said yesterday: "The two suspects allegedly stabbed the man in the chest and shoulder before running away from the scene leaving him for dead."

He said paramedics were called to the scene but that the man had already died when they arrived.

Mokomeni told Sowetan that the motive for the killing was still to be established but confirmed that the argument had been about liquor.

He said the victim's identity could not be released because police were still trying to locate his next of kin.

Though known to the police the suspects are still at large, but police hope to make arrests soon, Mokomeni said.
