No major criminal incidents needing to be investigated were reported during the ANC national conference in Polokwane, Limpopo police said yesterday.

Superintendent Ronel Otto, the provincial police spokesman, said they have had to deal with minor cases that included housebreakings and theft of property from houses in Mankweng.

The highly publicised conference ended yesterday and most of the dele- gates immediately left for their homes yesterday.

Otto described the conference as a success on their part.

"We are happy that no major cases had been reported to us during the national conference," Otto said.

She said the strong police presence at the conference venue and the surrounding areas made things difficult for would-be criminals to conduct their business.

"We made sure that every corner was being monitored to ensure the safety of the delegates and ordinary people in and around the Mankweng area.

"We also call on people to refrain from engaging in criminal activities during the festive season," she said.

More than 1000 police officers were deployed in various areas of the province during the conference.
