It is in this vein that I wish to express my gratitude to Professor Bernard Magubane's informative and encouraging open letter in Sowetan on December 12.
One can only hope that the ANC leadership notes these views and makes it their vision and mission in Polokwane. We hope that the objectivity in Magubane's article will be expressed in their behaviour and execution of their duties. The parallels between Morogoro and Limpopo are proof that history as a discipline is cyclic and stealing a page from the lessons of history is wisdom.
Every delegate at the Morogoro conference in 1969 was a true son and daughter of the struggle back home, against a vile system that gave the majority a slave-mentality education. That system has created many liabilities in post-apartheid South Africa's economy.
JB Marks, a communist, stands out as a selfless strategist who fostered unity among all activists. It is stalwarts such as Marks that the delegates and leadership in Polokwane must emulate. ANC debate has always been robust, not just mere words aimed at inducing the right decisions.
My gratitude to Magubane. I hope his views will be heeded in Limpopo.
