The death of boxing mentor Reggie Healey has left a void in the boxing front.
Healy died on Saturday after a short illness.
Healey, who turned 50 in June, is survived by his wife Gadija, four children and a grandson.
The boxing fraternity is still baffled by his death. The no-nonsense, soft-spoken mentor from Eldorado Park lived a clean life and was not shy to voice his displeasure when rubbed the wrong way round. His openness made him the unique person he was. Otherwise, Healey was an amiably human being.
A former professional fighter who campaigned in the junior welterweight division before calling it quits in 1984, Healey began honing the skills of fighters in 1990.
He produced a star in Earl Morias, who was voted Prospect of the Year in 1996.
Morias went on to win the SA cruiserweight title in 2000. Together, they added the WBA Pan African belt the following year.
Healey will be buried tomorrow at West Park Cemetery in Johannesburg at 11am.
The cortege will leave his home at 68 Kathleen Street, Florida, at 9am to the Apostolic Faith Mission (AFM) Church, corner Mail and Heinsbeeck avenues in Florida Park.
A church service will be held at 10am at the church.
