Theatre lovers and those into movies are poised to feast on a good selection of theatrical productions and films at the popular annual Soweto Arts Festival which ends this weekend.
When the Soweto Arts Festival started about five years ago, it fitted into a real arts festival format in that it did not just feature music, but other art disciplines as well.
This year it is no different as people who love other art forms besides music will enjoy theatre, film and film workshops at the festival.
Theatre and film screenings has always been part of the main programme of the arts festival since it started on December 1.
If you have missed the theatrical productions and films since the festival started, there is no reason to despair because you can still catch these festivities at the weekend starting tomorrow.
This weekend the following venues will host theatre and film screenings:
Film & Theatre - Pimville Community Centre
Plays to be staged are Gifted by Paul Noko, Ka-Nyamazane by Mncedisi Shabangu, Sins of a Man by Thapelo Motloung and Anarchy by Duma Mnembe.
The feature films that will be screened are Baara, Sarraounia, Tilai, Buud Yam and Drum.
The Slovoville Community Centre, Tshepisong Community Centre, Diepkloof Multipurpose Hall, Chiawelo Community Centre, Ipelegeng Community Centre will screen films only and no other productions will take place there.
The films that will be shown are The Lovers, Black Sunday South Africa, 34 South, Cuba: An African, SupreMama and Joburg Rising.
The Ipelegeng Community Centre will host a women's only film screening and a film dialogue. The workshops will be presented by the film collective, Women of the Sun. The films that will be shown are The Lovers, Black Sunday South Africa, 34 South, Cuba: An African, SupreMama and Joburg Rising.
