Vaal University of Technology (VUT) have been crowned winners of the South African Student Sports Union Club National Championships.

This was after VUT defeated University of Pretoria in an exciting final at the University of Johannesburg in Auckland Park at the weekend.

VUT's coach Mshengu Tshabalala also walked away with the coach of the tournament award in the awards ceremony after the tournament.

Amanda Dlamini, a former Sassu women's national team member, got the top goalscorer award after rattling the net 17 times.

"We are delighted to end 2007 on such an incredible note by winning the Sassu women's national title," said Star Hlongwane, head of sports and recreation at VUT. "We knew we'll do well because we have assembled a great team with a number of players doing duty for Banyana Banyana and the Sassu women's national side."
