Shona Khona is open to boys and girls aged between 10 and 16.

Shona Khona is an education-through

-sport programme that seeks to empower qualifying candidates by providing them with advanced soccer coaching and life skills that are designed to increase their confidence, enhance their talents and boost their leadership potential.

Shona Khona was initiated by Reckitt Benckiser and Metro Cash & Carry and is supported by Sowetan (for the Aggrey Klaaste Nation Building Foundation), financial services group AIG, car hire company Imperial-EuropCar, sports management company Forward Zone and Manchester United. The initiative has been endorsed by the SA Football Association (Safa).

So far Shona Khona has had a positive impact on the lives of about 360 youths from all over South Africa between 2005 and 2006. About 180 children attended four separate camps, each catering for about 90 children. These camps were held at the Safa and Transnet Sports School of Excellence at Elandsfontein in Ekurhuleni, Gauteng.

A total of 12 lucky recruits chosen from the two camps in 2005 attended further induction at the soccer academy of the famous Sao Paulo FC in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Another 12 recruits from the 2006 camp visited Sao Paulo in mid-2007. At the weekend, a total of 20 camps were held in all the country's nine provinces.
