The Nelson Mandela Bay municipality in Port Elizabeth has put aside R16 million for the purchase of six new fire-fighting vehicles.

This forms part of their plan to jack up their service delivery for the 2009 Confederations Cup, 2010 World Cup and beyond.

Mahlubi Biyana, a councillor in the Nelson Mandela municipality, said they were delighted to have bought the new vehicles.

He added that the new fire-fighting fleet would help the municipality deliver a quicker and more efficient service to the community.

Noxolo Abraham-Ntantiso, MEC for sports and culture in Eastern Cape, said they were happy to see visible developments in their World Cup host city.

Abraham-Ntantiso said there were many other projects that will be introduced in the new year as part of their preparations for the World Cup.
