Delegates faithful to mandate

As a delegate carrying the mandate of my branch, I have watched with keen interest the reactions to the 60percent support that branches, ANC Youth and Women's Leagues gave to deputy president Jacob Zuma.

As a delegate carrying the mandate of my branch, I have watched with keen interest the reactions to the 60percent support that branches, ANC Youth and Women's Leagues gave to deputy president Jacob Zuma.

In days gone by we would have proudly said that the people had spoken and proceeded to Limpopo to carry out the will of the people. That was then.

Now some of our leaders who are democrats are shocked, surprised and angry at this overwhelming support for Zuma. Some have even taken to the streets to protest against a democratic process.

Others like national chairman Mosiuoa Lekota have suddenly remembered that there is some truth that needs to be told about Zuma ahead of the conference.

As a delegate I am left a bit confused at this circus that has been put together to impress me to the point that I will betray the mandate from my branch.

I and other principled delegates are not going to be swayed from our mandate.

We are thinking delegates and do not take decisions lightly. It is us and not our leaders who know what is in the best interest of the movement.

Our leaders can indulge their egos through the media. As thinking delegates we will express the will of our branches who sustain the organisation with no material support from upper structures.

Molebatsi Masedi,

Chairman: ANC Mokwape Malatji
