Suspended Mamelodi Sundowns marketing and communications manager Alex Shakoane suspects there are evil forces bent on destroying him.

He was reacting to weekend newspaper reports that police are looking for him on another sexually-related charge.

Shakoane is currently on R1000 bail after he was arrested for alleged indecent assault on a 15-year-old daughter of a Sundowns supporters' co-ordinator.

After the allegations surfaced, a 35-year-old woman came forward saying Shakoane raped her at the age of 15.

She has since laid a charge of rape even though it occurred two decades ago.

A weekend report, quoting police spokesman Captain Lucas Sithole, said Shakoane was notified two weeks ago through a letter that he should hand himself over to police in connection with the latest matter. Sithole reportedly said the note was left at Shakoane's home in Moreletsa.

"It's been two weeks since the cops warned him to hand himself over but Shakoane has seemingly vanished."

But yesterday, Sithole said the matter was referred to the director of public prosecutions for a decision. "The police are waiting for a directive from the director of public prosecutions," Sithole said.

He refused to comment on the weekend report, saying he has not read the paper.

Shakoane said it was disturbing that police could make such false statements to the media. "It's so disturbing and so unfortunate that there are people who are so evil and try to destroy another human being.

"This is character assassination. It's bad for a police captain to go out and give a false statement. It's so damaging," he fumed.

He said his legal team was looking into the matter but could not say if legal action is being considered against the police.

His family business is a stone's throw rom Mamelodi police station in Pretoria and he spends most of the time there.

Shakoane does not even live in Moreletsa where police said they visited his house.

He said the false statement also puts his safety at risk because police might stop him and think he was a wanted man.

But, he said, people were beginning to see the truth. "Wherever I go, people say: 'Alex we support you. We can see that there are people gunning for you'.

"I'm saying to those who support me, they should know that police are not looking for me and what they read is false."

Shakoane refused to discuss the merits of allegations by the 35-year-old woman.

He also lashed out at the newspaper for publishing what he calls a false report.

"For me to appear on the front page with false posters is shocking," he said.

Shakoane is to appear in the Ga-Rankuwa magistrate's court tomorrow on a charge of sexually abusing a minor.
