KwaZulu-Natal's music enthusiasts should brace themselves for a pure home-grown music event when the MTN Durban Jazz Festival takes place at Hazelmere Dam on December 26.

Now in its 5th year, the festival, which was launched in 2003, continues to entertain music lovers. This year's event focuses on the theme of cele- brating excellence in local music.

The festival will happen at the right time of the year - a time of celebration, and many will use it to lift their spirits. To pass the time while counting down to the new year people will be listening to the best in Afro-jazz, Afro-pop and smooth jazz.

In terms of the line-up, the MTN Durban Jazz Festival is surely be one of the frontrunners for 2007.

Leading the pack is Hugh Masekela with a youth sound that can also be enjoyed by all generations.

Others include Jimmy Dludlu, Simphiwe Dana, Lira, Ringo Madlingozi, Siphokazi, Musa Manzini, Zonke, Kunle, Brian Thusi, Malini, Umanji, Camagwini, and Umkhumbane Jazz Ensemble, Quite Storm, Thatha and many more artists.

Female artist of the moment Siphokazi, who seems to have stolen Siphiwe Dana's limelight, will also be performing in Durban.

The organisers have promised that the festival will also feature ethnic food booths, drinks and craft that will be sold at the venue.

A child-care centre will look after the young while parents can enjoy the festival without any worries. Tickets can be bought at Computicket and Checkers/Shoprite stores for R160.
