A 15-year-old Limpopo boy committed suicide after discovering that he had failed his examinations.
The incident happened at Fandani village in HaMakuya outside Thohoyandou at the weekend.
Police spokesman Inspector Mashudu Madida identified the boy as Rodney Madida, a distant relative of his.
He said the boy's grandfather had gone to a local secondary school on Friday afternoon to collect the boy's report. The boy, after opening the report and discovering he had failed Grade 9, decided to take his own life.
He went into his room and hanged himself, said Madida.
"The boy's older brother told us he became concerned when he realised Rodney had been inside the room for a long time," Madida said.
He said when the brother went to check, he found Rodney hanging from the roof with a plastic rope.
Madida said a postmortem would be conducted soon on the body.
An inquest docket had been opened, he added.
