Timothy Monyama, veteran Limpopo soccer administrator and businessman, will be buried at GaRakgoatha village in Zebediela tomorrow.
Monyama, popularly known in South African soccer circles as "Oom Tim", died on November 30 after a long illness. He was diabetic.
Born on May 22 1932, Monyama used his businesses to finance his soccer club due to a lack of sponsorship. At the time of his death, Monyama had a number of successful businesses in Namakgale, Lebowakgomo and Zebediela.
He used to own Phalaborwa United football club, later changing the name to Bosveld United after he relocated from Namakgale to Lebowakgomo.
Bosveld United, who campaign in the Vodacom League, were sold to Sinky Mnisi last season. They are coached by one of Monyama's products, Alex "Barnes" Bapela.
Other players developed by Monyama's club include Joseph "Stimela" Baloyi, Power Ledwaba, Lionel Manamela and Sidwell Maja.
"We all saddened by the death of Oom T. It is a big loss to amateur soccer in Limpopo," said Limpopo soccer leader Peter "Fuduwa" Mathekga.
Selokela Masetle, Safa director of competitions, said: "I worked with Oom T for a long time, the old man just loved soccer."
Nakedi Lekota, Safa Limpopo president, said: "Our condolences to his family, Oom T was one of the people who wanted to see Limpopo soccer being a success.
"He is one of the people who worked tirelessly, spending money meant for his family with the hope that Limpopo will have more clubs in the professional ranks."
Monyama is survived by his wife and five children.
