Correctional Services said that “matters are under control” at Johannesburg’s Sun City Prison on Wed.
IBO featherweight champion Thomas "Merciless" Mashaba is heading for the stars, come 2008.
This promise was made by Golden Gloves promoter Rodney Berman who guides this grossly underrated fighter, whose skills are perfected by Eugene Khanyile.
Berman said US business associate Art Art Pellulo of Banner Promotions has lined up a bout for Mashaba that will be shown on US sports station ESPN2 in April next year.
"Don't forget that Mashaba has already been designated to headline our Emperors Palace boxing showpiece on February 2, where Corrie Sanders will challenge Osborne Machimana for the SA heavyweight title in the chief undercard bout," said Berman.
Its not clear yet who will challenge Mashaba, who left about 300 fight fans gazing in disbelief with his stunning ninth-round stoppage over highly rated former IBF champion Eric Aiken last month.
"Mashaba is one helluva fighter and I can vouch for that," said Berman.
"As a matter of fact, I've been reliably informed that as a result of his brilliant win against Aiken, the IBF will move Mashaba from number eight to the fourth position in their next world rankings.
"Thomas is heading for the top berth in the IBF featherweight ratings and he won't relinquish his IBO world championship either."
Berman's other boxers whom he said are high on the agenda for next year include IBO bantamweight king Silence Mabuza, IBO welterweight champion Isaac Hlatshwayo and former IBO junior featherweight champion Takalani Ndlovu.
