Cops warn holiday-makers

Mpumalanga police have issued a stern warning to people who are coming to Marloth Park, in Komatipoort, for the Christmas holi- days to be aware of criminals who rob and kill tourists and local people.

The warning comes after a family in Marloth Park, was held up at gunpoint and robbed of R75 in cash, jewellery, food and other valuable items, last Saturday.

Police believe the suspects also went to another house, where they walked away with items and cash to the value of R45000.

The family was ambushed when they went outside to check a blocked water valve. Police believe the suspects switched off the water valve as a ploy to get the inhabitants to come out of the house. The robbers then pounced on them.

"In all the incidents, we learn the culprits used the same method and this, it seems, is meant to ambush tourists and local people during the holidays," said police spokesman Constable Richard Khumalo.

He said most victims were tourists who had come to enjoy their holi- days in the Nkomazi region.

Both incidents happened the same day a 50-year-old Cape Town man was gunned down.

The deceased was enjoying a braai with four family members when five men attacked them.

Anyone with information is requested to call the police at 013-793-7321 or 079-8915-016.
