Soweto police have arrested two of their own, one a captain, for possessing illegal firearms.

The officers, based at Moroka police station, were arrested on Tuesday after police confiscated three unlicensed firearms from private security guards.

Police spokesman Captain Mpande Khoza said yesterday two guards from a private security company in Devland, south of Soweto, were arrested when they were found in possession of three illegal guns.

"The guards told police they received the guns from their employers who are police officers," said Khoza.

The officers will appear in court soon.
