The Rustenburg Local Municipality has appointed Nkete Matima as its coordinator of the 2010 World Cup finals.

The Rustenburg Local Municipality has appointed Nkete Matima as its coordinator of the 2010 World Cup finals.

Prior to the appointment, Matima was in charge of the special projects in the office of executive mayor Mathew Wolmarans, who is happy with their preparations.

Matima started his new job on Monday and reports directly to the Rustenburg municipal manager, Andries Boschoff.

"I'm excited to have been appointed to the job and looking forward to contributing to the success of the World Cup here in Rustenburg," said Matima.

"It is a new challenge. My job is to coordinate all the projects relating to the World Cup in the host city of Rustenburg.

"It entails dealing with issues relating to infrastructure, transport, logistics, legacy projects and the establishment of fan parks.

"I will also be interacting with the North West provincial government on things like the guarantees for the hosting of the World Cup.

Matima said he was happy with the progress in terms of the preparations for the World Cup in Rustenburg.

"Everything is going according to plans, there are major developments that we are working on as part of the preparations for the tournament.

"The good thing about us is that we are not going to do major changes at the Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace, there will be minor upgrades. The main thing, which is already being done, is to increase the seating capacity from 39500 to 42000 people."
