The yearly Tshepo Ncholo Memorial Games look set to be more enthralling as the organisers are targeting 25 soccer teams in the tournament that will also feature 12 softball clubs.

This year's winners will also receive increased first prize money that will see the champions in the football category walking away with R25000. This will be an increase of R10000.

The winning team in the softball category will take home R10000, up on the R8000 they received last year.

The ninth edition of the event starts in Tsakane, Ekurhuleni, from December 14 to 30.

Softball pitches off on December 14 and the final will be played two days later.

The football programme kicks off from December 17 until the last day of the tournament.

Khotso Ncholo, the event's organiser, yesterdaysaid they were keen to make this year's event a roaring success.

"Last year we had 18 soccer teams and our target for 2007 is 25, and we are all hopeful that we will get the targeted number because all the clubs want to be part of these Games," Ncholo said.

"We are also encouraged that we will still have softball clubs from Botswana and this will make competition very stiff."

He said the Ncholo Trust will give R120 000 towards the tournament, R20 000 more than last year.

B3 Funeral Brokers have increased their sponsorship from R30000 to R40000.

New Era Santos of Tsakane are the reigning football champions after beating Best FC 2-1 in a closely-fought final last year.

Mahwelereng Spikes pipped Seleteng Giant Killers in an all-Limpopo affair to be crowned the softball kings of the event.
