Debates and disagreements are healthy for any democracy, not so the events of the past few months.

Neither Mbeki nor Zuma are angels. I did not hear Mosioua Lekota complain when Mbeki sowed confusion about HIV-Aids. Not a single murmur when Mbeki said crime is a perception. The failure by Mbeki's people to be honest with him has created a chasm between him and the citizens.

Also, I didn't hear any disapproval from Zuma's camp after his homophobic statements.

If supporters of both camps cared about the ANC and the country, they would ask their favourite candidate to withdraw from the race. Mbeki has had his time. Zuma has disqualified himself through his conduct.

I am also disappointed with Cosatu and the SACP for choosing sides instead of finding solutions.

The next two weeks are critical. We can't be another African failure where leaders cling to power at the expense of economic development.

The ANC has many capable, young, bright and talented leaders. The country is waiting for the ANC to lead.
