Aspirant scriptwriters for television and theatre have an opportunity to be trained into wordsmiths at a workshop in Soweto on December 8.

The workshop, which is organised by the Soweto Film and Writers' Association (SFWA) in partnership with the SA Script Institute, will be held at the YWCA Centre in Dube. It starts at 9am.

Basil Dube, project coordinator and SFWA chairman, said the aim of the workshop is to identify and develop new creative writing talent from the townships to introduce new and entertaining stories to our screens.

"The partnership will also be launching the 2008 Script Deve- lopment Camp.

"The camp is a three-month writers' retreat designed to provide professional mentoring and script development skills to a host of selected scriptwriters," Dube said.

Selected writers will be given the opportunity to develop their scripts under the direction of a professional development team made up of a scriptwriter, director, editor and producer.

To register, contact Basil Dube on 078-738-7846 or Mpho Ramathuthu on 011-838-8848.
