Millions intended to be spent on the health needs of Eastern Cape residents have gone missing from d.
What is happening in our movement, the ANC, is worrying. ANC deputy president Jacob Zuma's supporters have made it a norm to insult our leaders and anyone they disagree with. Some openly flout the ANC constitution and get away with it because our secretary-general has decided to suspend it. Dissenting views are suppressed and those who speak out against this behaviour have been intimidated, and even expelled.
These issues should concern every patriotic South African and ANC member. Also worrying is that Zuma has not criticised his supporters' behaviour.
We must praise President Thabo Mbeki for opposing unruly behaviour, even if it means becoming unpopular. He will go down in our movement's history as a custodian of morals and discipline. He has fought corruption by those who abuse their positions to line their pockets.
Those who say that Zuma is a popular choice should know what is happening in our branches. Some people have been manipulating the nomination process. For instance, in KwaZulu-Natal, old comrades have been sidelined and new people brought in as voting fodder after membership was bought, creating the impression that Zuma has huge support in the province. If Zuma is elected, it will be a decision that will come back to haunt his supporters and the country.
