Instead Adebayor sees himself as a proud Togolese, choosing the land of his birth - one that he is proud to represent at national level in the beautiful game.
Well, that's the story from the horse's mouth in a no-holds-barred interview that will make for interesting viewing on the African Soccer Television show on SABC1 Sport's Laduma programme on Sunday at 2.30pm.
On January 13 last year, Adebayor signed for Arsenal for an undisclosed fee, which is rumoured to be around £3 million. He was assigned shirt No 25, which previously belonged to Nigerian striker Nwankwo Kanu, among others.
In an interview with Arsenal.com, Adebayor said he chose that shirt number because he idolised Kanu as a young player. Like Kanu, he also wears the No 4 shirt when playing for his national team. The two players also share an extraordinary physical resemblance, earning Adebayor the affectionate nickname "Baby Kanu" in homage to the former Arsenal man.
In fact, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger even described Adebayor as "Kanu with pace" when he signed him. He has also been hailed as the "new Drogba", after Chelsea striker Didier Drogba, with his silky control and powerful shots.
Other highlights on the show feature the Soweto derby that ended 2-2 in Durban before a local and international audience.
In international friendlies, Angola continued their fairytale ride with a 2-1 beating of Ivory Coast while Bafana Bafana annihilated Lesotho 5-0.
The Ghana Four Nations tournament saw the hosts edge Togo 2-0 before going on to deny glory to Benin, coming from behind to win 4-2.
Angola's beach soccer team won the international Kimbo Cup at Luanda's Cabo island with Brazil coming second and Portugal third.
