NPA asked to probe diamond claim

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has been asked to investigate the saga relating to claims of the discovery of an enormous diamond in North West, NPA spokesman Tlali Tlali said yesterday .

In August claims were made that a 7000 carat, light green stone had been found, but people within the diamond industry could not verify it.

Ernie Blom, president of the World Federation of Diamond Bourses, said he had not yet seen the precious stone.

The NPA said it had not yet decided whether to launch an investigation into the matter, but confirmed they had been approached by an individual and the matter was subject to an internal process.

News24 reported that the Scorpions were probing a case of fraud after they were approached by businessman Brett Jolly who was associated with the diamond in earlier reports of the "find". - Sapa
