Burnt doctor in airline action

A Port Elizabeth doctor may sue Comair after he suffered burns to his buttocks when hot water from a snacks trolley fell on him during the flight.

A Port Elizabeth doctor may sue Comair after he suffered burns to his buttocks when hot water from a snacks trolley fell on him during the flight.

This after the flight experienced turbulence, the Herald online reported yesterday.

Abry Ntliziyo, 44, and his wife were flying from Johannesburg to Port Elizabeth last month when turbulence caused the trolley, pushed by a flight attendant, to shake causing the pot of water to fall on him, the report said.

He suffered burns to his back and his buttocks.

Ntliziyo had to sit in the wet seat for the duration of the flight.

The airline confirmed the incident, saying they had offered him compensation - a one-way local flight to a destination of his choice.

The airline also offered to pay the shortfall on his medical aid but the scheme had covered the full costs.

Ntliziyo declined Comair's offers, sticking to legal action. He said no one from the airline came to see how he was or offer help after the plane landed.

The airline staff also showed no remorse after the incident, he said.

He said if they had treated him with respect and dignity, he might not be considering taking legal action. - Sapa
