Bid to clean up Nigerian soccer

LAGOS - Nigeria's anti-corruption agency says they will be investigating financial matters to clean up the country's soccer.

LAGOS - Nigeria's anti-corruption agency says they will be investigating financial matters to clean up the country's soccer.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) says the "crisis" in Nigerian football needs inspection.

The Nigeria Football Association (NFA) and the Nigeria Football League (NFL) have had a long-standing tussle over matters such as the selection of officials and the fulfilment of fixtures.

"Recent trends are concerning and we need to take a closer look," EFCC chairman Nuhu Ribadu said.

"For us to develop football we must put corruption out of it, we must sanitise (and) we must clean up."

Former president Olusegun Obasanjo established the EFCC four years ago to root out the country's endemic corruption. - BBC
