A total of 384 IFP members applied for a presidential pardon four years ago.

IFP chief whip Koos van der Merwe said the party has about 1062 prisoners that it hoped would be pardoned.

The PAC claims it has 122 cadres in jail for politically related offences, and has supported the IFP's Pretoria high court bid against President Thabo Mbeki and Justice Minister Brigitte Mabandla to have the matter resolved.

At the time of going to press, Azapo chairman Zithulele Cindi said at least three prominent Azapo leaders qualify for a pardon, including the exiled George Wauchope.

ANC national spokesman Smuts Ngonyama said the ANC has not yet arrived at a figure as to how many of its members qualified for presidential pardon.

Ngonyama said he was therefore unable to supply the correct figure and requisite names.
