A senior Mpumalanga housing department official yesterday appeared in the Tonga magistrate's court after allegedly burning her estranged husband's house.
Deputy Director Shirley Mahlangu-Masango, 42, her younger sisters Sylvia Masango, 28, and Beauty Masango, are facing charges of arson and malicious damage to property. They were not asked to plead.
They were granted R1000 bail each pending their next court appearance on December 18 for further police investigations.
They allegedly went to the home of Mahlangu-Masango's husband, Sipho Masango, at Schoemansdal near Malelane, armed with knobkerries, petrol and knives on Sunday morning, allegedly setting fire to the furniture and clothing, and smashed the windows.
Goods estimated at more than R200 000 were destroyed by fire inside the house.
"I suspect that after learning that I had a girlfriend my wife decided to kill both of us," Masango said. - Given Mahlalela and Riot Hlatshwayo
