Live by the heist, die at the heist

Gangsters who conduct their criminal business with brazenness should be treated with the same ruthlessness by law enforcement officers.

Gangsters who conduct their criminal business with brazenness should be treated with the same ruthlessness by law enforcement officers.

Always conducting massive cash-in-transit heists shortly before the festive period, these mobs have shown no mercy to the police, security guards and civilians during their deadly operations.

Having evaded the police during most of their escapades, they met their match on Monday.

Six were shot dead and others wounded and arrested in a bloody shootout with the police during botched robberies in Pretoria and Sebokeng in the Vaal.

The police should be lauded for their bold display of fighting fire with fire.

Unfortunately one of the officers, Inspector Matthews Mkhwanazi, died during the gunfight in Pretoria.

By engaging in bloody battle with these gangsters, the police have shown serious intent.

We hope the courts of law will not nullify their sterling work by releasing the arrested thugs on bail and allow them to return and continue with their deadly attacks.

We urge the police to continue their massive crackdown on these gangsters who have turned our country into cowboy territory. The same gangsters show no respect for the rule of law.

Peace-loving South Africans have had enough of crime.

Nail the bastards.
