The ANC is poised to elevate and increase women to high elected positions in all party structures in line with its 50-50 representation for males and females.
The ANC has acknowledged its organisational challenges and shortcomings, including the disunity currently besieging the party and lack of cohesion in the national leadership in the run-up to the party's elective national conference in Limpopo next month.
This emerged after the ANC national executive committee meeting which was held in Johannesburg at the weekend. The meeting also looked at amending the constitution to elevate the Umkhonto we Sizwe Military Veterans Association to a constitutional structure reporting to the party's general secretary and to increase the terms of offices for the provincial executives from three to four years, regional executives from two to three years and branch executive committees from one to two years.
The meeting confirmed that the University of Limpopo would be ready to host the all-important elective gathering - the biggest in the ANC's history.
