Zandile Primary School became the inaugural winners of the Build-It Under-13 soccer tournament by beating Lomatidraai Primary School 1-0 at Kamhlushwa Stadium on Sunday.

Sixteen teams competed in the one-day tournament that was sponsored by Build-It.

Zandile coach Bhoni Mhlabane said they are excited about winning the tournament.

"I attribute our success today to all who cooperated with us, from the groundsmen at the school to the parents. We also thank Build-It and Safa for organising the tournament," said an elated Mhlabane.

Sifiso Metiso scored the only goal that saw Zandile crowned champions, late in the second half.

Patson Mashele, Nkomazi Local Football Association president, applauded the hardware company for coming on board and lifting the development of football in the area.

"The attendance was good and the participating teams appreciated the presence of the tournament," said Mashele.

The champions won a full kit and each player received trophies, while the runners-up received a kit.

Vent Robinson, Build-It manager, said: "We have committed ourselves to develop football, especially at grassroots level. We promise that this is going to be an yearly event."
