The St Stephens Anglican Church in Diepkloof, Soweto, was a hive of activity yesterday as churchgoers and members of the Dental Assistant Association of SA (Daasa) got together in what was dubbed a National Prayer Day.

An annual event organised by Daasa, the main theme was dental care.

Daasa president Joyce Raphiri said: "Because November is the national Daasa prayer month, we decided to bring ourselves to the community we serve, for them to pray for us as health workers."

"We also taught people about the importance of taking care of their teeth. There is a need for people to take care of their teeth. Taking care of one's teeth will prevent early decay".

Raphiri encouraged the congregation to brush their teeth regularly and visit the dentist twice a year. "This will keep your teeth in good form," she said.

She said they had been well received by the congregation.

"The reception was very good and people also enquired about other dental issues".

Church member Dikgang Mbele said he found the campaign "very interesting and educational".
