ANC in Gauteng is still to decide their choice of the next president of the organisation at the movement's national elective conference to be held in Limpopo.

While speculation this week suggested that the province supports ANC deputy president Jacob Zuma, the official version is that nothing has been decided yet. The majority of branches in the province are yet to hold their branch general meetings (BGMs) to nominate national leadership and select conference delegates.

ANC provincial executive member and communications head Nkenke Kekana said only 130 of the 330 branches in the province were already through with their BGMs as of yesterday.

The remaining 200 branches have been given a November 22 deadline to finish the process.

Kekana said branch nominations are put in a sealed envelope and taken by an independent electoral commission (IEC) official to be locked up at the party's provincial office. They will be kept under the care of the commission while waiting to be opened by the commission's representatives at the party's provincial general council (PGC) on November 26.

"It is only during or after the PGC that we will know who Gauteng has nominated to lead the ANC. There is no room for speculation," said Kekana.

He said it is highly likely different branches have nominated different candidates for the top six and the 60 NEC members.

"We do not expect our branches to be monopolistic in their approach," he said.
