A Durban man has been arrested for allegedly raping the one-year-old daughter of his employer, police said yesterday.
Captain Khephu Ndlovu said the 18-year-old youth was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly raping the daughter of a tuckshop owner in Umlazi.
The incident happened while the mother had gone to the hospital on Monday.
She had left her children at home, including the baby girl, in the care of a helper.
When she returned from the hospital she found that the helper had left and her children were in tears.
She noticed one of the containers from her tuckshop in the house and questioned one of the older children.
It emerged that the 18-year-old had arrived at the house after she had left.
"The children said they were threatened with assault if they told their mother what they had seen."
The man will appear in the Umlazi magistrate's court today.
Ndlovu said the baby was admitted to hospital. - Sapa
