Final indignity for murdered girl

The last victim of the Soweto serial rapist died on Sunday, three weeks after being admitted to Chris Hani-Baragwanath Hospital.

And now she might get a pauper's burial.

Her family said yesterday that they could not afford to bury her at their ancestral home in Mount Ayliff in Eastern Cape.

Coceka Lubobo, 17, was the last victim of self-confessed murderer and rapist Dumisani Mthombeni, who allegedly committed suicide in police custody shortly after his arrest on October 25. Mthombeni, 34, raped and killed his victims by slitting their throats before dumping their bodies in open velds in Klipspruit and Orlando.

Lubobo's older sister, Moyakazi, said the family wished to bury Coceka in Mount Ayliff where she was born.

"We don't have enough money to return her home and give her a dignified funeral."

Moyakazi, 25, is unemployed and eight months pregnant. She has looked after her younger siblings since their mother's death in 2001.
