The grieving children of a woman who was allegedly decapitated by her husband want answers.
The two children Dimakatso, 29, and her 21-year-old brother, Victor, alleged their stepfather Edward Mathole, 53, had physically abused their mother Roseline, 49.
Mathole, was arrested for the murder of his wife, whose headless body was found in Vredefort, Free State. But police said he committed suicide by hanging himself while in custody in a Vanderbijlpark holding cell on Sunday.
Police said he hanged himself after confessing to the murder of the Sasolburg nursing sister.
Police spokesman, Captain Veli Mcera said the woman had laid assault charges against Mathole and was about to divorce him.
She had also filed for a protection order against him.
Dimakatso said she and her brother were still trying to come to terms with their mother's brutal death.
She said they did not know why Mathole killed himself before revealing where he hid their mother's head.
"He used to assault my mother and she could not take it any more and reported him to the police.
"He owes us answers," she said.
"When she was killed, my mother had already moved out of the house fearing for her safety, but he still managed to trace and kill her. When my mother reported him, he had severely assaulted her. There was blood all over their bedroom. He later painted the room to hide bloodstains," she said.
Dimakatso last month fetched her brother to stay with her in Mpumalanga. Her mother was last seen on October 31, on her way to work.
