Nkuna Stars' men's netball team proved their supremacy when they lifted the Old Khakhi Tournament title at the Katlehong Sports Complex at the weekend.

Stars were declared winners of the yearly competition after they topped the log table with six points from three games.

They edged out Old Khakhi 17-9 in the opening game and went on to overcome 10111 from Johannesburg 17-14 and finally conquer Mpumalanga 17-9.

Four teams, including Stars, took part in the exciting one-day contest that also catered for women.

Experience played a vital role in Stars' success because they had four players in their fold who have been included in the provisional national squad.

The national team will take part in the 2008 Cosafa Games at a date and venue still to be confirmed.

The quartet are goal-attack Philip Nkuna, goal shooter Trevor Chuma, wing attack Themba Ntuli and goal defender Velly Mtshali.

Mpumalanga took honours in the women's category following their narrow 17-14 triumph over Rand Water in a hard-fought encounter.

Mpho Santi, the secretary of the Old Khakhi team, said the objective of the tournament was to raise funds for the club.

"Proceeds from this event will help us to buy netball kits and register for the Eastern Gauteng Netball Association League next season,'' said Santi.

He added that the games were of a high standard compared to last season.

The winners got trophies and gold medals.

Other results:

Men: Khakhi 16, Mpumalanga 10; 10111 14, Mpumalanga 10.

Women: Rand Water 15, Tshwane University of Technology 8; Small Poison 16, Super eagles 13; Mogale United 18, Diepkloof 4; Kgatelopele 16, Aquarius 14.
