A former senior manager in the Limpopo department of roads and transport will appear in the Polokwane magistrate's court today on charges of indecent assault.

Samuel Thusago, 55, who was previously deputy director of transport in the department of finance, was arrested last week Thursday for allegedly sodomising a 12-year-old boy.

According to the charge sheet, Thusago, who is a family friend to the victim's mother, allegedly found the boy playing with his uncle at a flat in Ladana, Polokwane, on Thursday afternoon and offered to drive with the child to Seshego.

It is alleged that Thusago offered the boy a liquid substance to drink while on the way to Seshego. The boy allegedly started feeling drowsy and subsequently fell asleep in the car.

The boy told his mother that when he woke up, Thusago was on top of him with his pants down.

He told his mother that Thusago pulled his pants down and forcibly penetrated him.

The boy's mother, who cannot be named to protect her child's identity, told Sowetanyesterday that Thusago only dropped the boy at the veranda of the flat. "When I went outside the house, he was already gone," she said.

"When I asked him [the boy] what had happened, he became emotional and was reluctant to speak.

"He started experiencing pains in his anus the following day. He could not walk properly. When I asked him what the matter was, he still could not speak.

The boy started having a running stomach. I suspected that something was not right when I was cleaning him in the bathroom. He told me that malome had sodomised him," she said .

"I took him to Polokwane Hospital where doctors confirmed that he had been penetrated," she said, still struggling to come to terms with the ordeal.

Limpopo police spokesman Mohlaka Mashile confirmed that a case of indecent assault had been opened against Thusago.

"He appeared in the Polokwane magistrate's court on Friday. He was denied bail and remanded in custody. The suspect will appear again today for a bail application," said Mashile.
