Three teenage boys were seriously injured in faction fighting in Butterworth in the Eastern Cape, police said yesterday.

Spokesman Captain Lingisile Magama said that the incident happened on Saturday afternoon when boys from two villages - Mzantsi and Mpeduza - near Butterworth clashed.

A group of boys from Mzantsi visited a relative in Mpeduza who was scheduled to go to an initiation school soon.

The group from Mpeduza clashed with them, claiming that they had invaded their territory. Both groups were armed with small axes.

Two Mzantsi boys and one from Mpeduza, aged between 17 and 19, were seriously injured.

They were taken to the Butterworth hospital. - Sapa
